FAQ

Asset finance questions, answered

What is a chattel mortgage?

A chattel mortgage is the most common way Australian businesses finance vehicles and equipment. Your business owns the asset from day one, the lender holds a mortgage over it, and you may be able to claim GST on the purchase upfront and depreciation plus interest as deductions. Repayments can be structured with a balloon to reduce monthly outgoings - your accountant can confirm the tax treatment for your situation.

Can I get equipment finance without full financial statements?

Often, yes. Asset finance is one of the easiest types of business lending to obtain on a low-doc basis. Many lenders will approve applications for borrowings under $150,000 without full financials where the business has held an ABN for at least a year, is GST registered, has a clean credit history and the directors own property. Approval in these cases is commonly within 24 hours.

Can I finance used or auction-purchased equipment?

Yes. Most lenders finance quality used assets, including dealer, auction and in some cases private-sale purchases, though age limits apply (many lenders want the asset to be under a certain age at the end of the loan term). Rates on used and private-sale assets can differ from new - we compare who treats your asset best.

How fast can vehicle or equipment finance be approved?

For straightforward low-doc applications under $150,000, approval within 24 to 48 hours is common. Larger or full-doc deals take longer depending on the lender and the asset. Tell us your settlement deadline - auction purchases in particular - and we will match you with a lender that can move at that speed.

Do you finance excavators, forklifts and other yellow goods?

Yes. We arrange finance for excavators, forklifts, skid steers, earthmoving machinery, trucks, trailers and specialised business equipment, for new and used assets. Structures include chattel mortgage and lease options with flexible terms and balloon payments to suit your cash flow.
